When we closed on Hello House in June 2005, the front yard was pretty bare. The grass was decent (nicer than it’s been recently), but the stone planters were gone from the front of the house, there were no urns, and the only plants were four shaped yews (yugh!).
Since then, we’ve:
+ dug up the yews
+ replaced the stone planters and urns
+ made a nice, curvy garden bed
+ made a little bed on the other side of the stoop
+ planted a hinoki
+ planted a serviceberry
+ planted a boxwood and 2 peiris japonica
+ planted sweet woodruff and yellow stonecrop
+ planted astible, goldenrod, coreopsis, jacob’s ladder, and other stuff
+ transplanted speedwell and alpine columbine from the backyard
Jef and I take turns designing plant arrangements for the urns on our stoop walls. This is my year, and the urns are now full of white bacopa, blue flossflower, orange symphony, and icicles.
The ivy we planted in the planter boxes last fall died, so we’ll have to replant those this summer.
