I walled off a very small corner of the vegetable garden specifically for herbs. At first I was very pleased because I thought I had successfully blocked off the mint from the vegetables. As the summer progressed, the okra in the vegetable garden began to shade the garden. Poor placement indeed!
I sprinkled basil seeds throughout the vegetable garden and to my delight, despite a severe flood the day after sewing, I had tons of basil. It grows very easily from seed in garden soil, pots, etc. Very hardy. I need to be sure I make pesto at the end of the season next year. Too much basil lost to heat in August.
The Thyme, Oregano and Mint plants came from pots I had potted up the winter before. I bought 1 new mint plant. My lavender seeds never sprouted. I didn’t have high hopes for them.
