Constructed during the spring of 2011, approximately 30 sq ft.
I originally wanted the bed to be 7×8ft, but unfortunately ran into a huge rock outcropping that hampered those plans. Instead, I built it to be 10×3ft.
Photo 1 is after it was all dug up (with the dog inspecting my handywork), photo 2 is before.
Unlike the other parts of my yard that are lovely sandy loam, this part of the yard was filled in at some point (due to said rock outcropping) so the soil is nowhere near as nice, and there were huge chunks of rock and concrete I had to pull out in order to build it.
When I first moved in, I thought this garden would be primarily all shade, turns out it part shade, with about 6 hours of direct sun. Hence the name.

I’ll be curious to see what you plant here. I have a square foot garden that becomes mostly shaded during the summer after my Sweet Gum leafs out. Still trying to figure what will work there long term.
