my son built a arbor about 7 years ago out of cedar trees from our bush, i planted grapes on either side of it i have the purple grape and a green variety no idea which varieties i have anymore but the green variety is sour, the purple are good to eat and the birds like both kinds. under the arbor i have hosta planted at all corners , i am hoping the shade from the grape vine leaves will be enough for the hosta. i have put a natural mulch of wood chips from my basement which i clean out after the winter’s worth of wood that is stored there is burnt up in our stove, i also add pine cones from my trees and broken bits and pieces of twigs.
