Sheena, this new garden looks very promising. Making a point to watch it’s progress and development. You’ve packed some real tasty offerings into this tidy space. The tomatoes should benefit from their placement, and the offset in the fencing slats should assist in ventilation. Please post more photos of your kitchen garden as it matures.

Thanks! I find tracking progress is so much easier with Folia, I’ve never been great at keeping a paper gardening journal but Folia makes fun. All the heat-loving plants, especially toms, are doing really well … the peas not so much. It just was not a good cool-growing season for us this year, we went from frigid to too hot.

I like the formal layout. Practical and attractive too :-)

It’s nice to see gardens grow from the beginning, I’ll enjoy following this one.

Wow, that’s beautiful! and so organized. I’m jealous LOL The beginning and end of my organization and tidiness was me trying to keep things in a straight row and now is just a chaotic jumble mess. I will definitely do better next year having been inspired by you.

This is such a beautiful, well-organized garden. Although I am grateful for the acreage we have, I do sometimes wish for a reason to not just plop stuff down in row after row of plantings. It looks so much prettier when done the way yours is!

ceae! What a wonderful garden this is! It is something that anyone would be proud of! What a neat idea. Unfortunately, we can not have a “kitchen garden” because our very large dog lives in that part of the yard, and would reak havoc of it! I like it very much! Most of my decorative stuff, if I find any cheaply will be done out front, away from mister curious!

How did I not see this before?? Ceae, it’s gorgeous! I’m loving the layout, especially the center area which can be adapted for various uses (I immediately thought three sisters). I wonder if I could ever convince my husband to let me take some of the backyard for something like this. A great example of how a vegetable/kitchen garden can be beautiful as well!

Seriously! You’ve inspired me to look at my yard in a whole new light and possibly plan out something much more creative and good looking than the standard SFG set up. If my husband gives his blessing my two SFG boxes would go to the children so they could each have a garden.

    Stunning!

Ceae, I’ve noticed you are using the spiral tomato cages, how do you like them? I used the spiral stakes a few years ago and they were too much trouble, the plants dragged them down.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments :)

@ Minivanninja … I really like the spiral cages and am using them again this year. I’ll put them on as soon as the WOWs are removed.

Some people complain about them falling over too, but mine held up really well. I used the longest, thickest plastic coated metal stakes I could get and put them in the ground very deep (at least 18"). I did tie the tomatoes to the stakes in a couple places, but the cage was great for helping to support the large fruit. Last year I had one that started to tip from the weight but I was able to just pound it in the ground a bit more and it was fine.
