Iseulte's Front Bed garden

Garden Type: Shade | Sun: Full Shade | Soil: Silt

This is just the area in front of the porch and next to the steps. It’s only about 4 feet by 14 feet and tends to get invaded by the roots of the huge maple tree in the front yard. It gets very little sun when the tree is in leaf – perhaps about 2-3 hours in the morning, tops. It’s hard to figure out what to put there that can stand the drought conditions and deep shade.

This is a lot like my front law shade garden – roots and low light.

Try more hostas, brunnera, ferns, heuchera and pachysandra. Well, maybe not pachysandra – it does spread like crazy. Anyway, ferns, heuchera and hostas comes in tons of colors, many drought resistant.
