funkisockmunki's Backyard Shade garden

Garden Type: Shade | Sun: Full Shade | Soil: Silt | Established: 2010 | Organic

This space has highly contaminated soil from old paint and/or the brick repointing project, maybe also from fill dirt. At any rate, no edible gardening will happen back here. My main goal with this tiny corner is to bring some color and greenery to it.

I want to grow vines that will cover the downspouts and also muffle the sounds of water running through them.

There is a malpruned, but still fairly beautiful Japanese Maple back there. I aim to slowly prune it back to beauty and health. With the ground level, I need plants that will tolerate pretty deep shade – taller things will get partial sun for part of the mid-morning.

In this area I would like to start a Fatsia Japonica, Clematis ‘Betty Corning’, Japanese Painted fern and Forest Grass, Hellebores.

Currently there are only a few baby plants in there… I need to rehab the soil some more and add more plants this spring.

funkisockmunki's Backyard Shade garden is an outdoor organic garden located in Seattle, United States and currently contains 35 plants.

This is a Shade garden that is known to be in USDA Hardiness Zone 8b. It has mainly Silt soil and receives Full Shade light.
