Double Daffodil Planting Out: Planted!
On this beautiful, fall day here in Maine, I got down on the old hands and knees and planted my 64 Smokey Bear narcissus bulbs out along the edge of our property. I broadcast them by hand, and planted them where they landed. Or at least I TRIED to plant them where they landed. There were far more roots than I was expecting, but I still think this planting method will be better than digging a straight trench and planting them at the exact spacing. They’ll look more natural and hopefully, if they do well and naturalize themselves, they’ll just add to the landscaping. I can’t wait to see them next spring!!

Trailing Nasturtium Mix Flowering: Spoke Too Soon!
I guess I spoke too soon when I said these were “done”! I realized today that there were flowers poking through the OTHER side of the trellis. The coleus in front of this is done, but the nasturtiums are sending up some very pretty blooms. We’ve had two rather harsh frosts, so I’m really surprised. I guess the water is still “warm” enough to keep some insulation on the stream side of the house. What a nice surprise!

Hydrangea Dying Down
Technically, these aren’t dying down just yet. The leaves are still looking very healthy. I wish they had bloomed this year. If they don’t next year, then I’ll move them to a sunnier location….perhaps Florida!
