Garden Type: Flower | Sun: Don't Know | Soil: Combination

This is a 6′ × 30′ bed along the west side of the garage— hence nicknamed “The West Bed.” It faces a side street and has the most extreme mix of conditions out of any of my gardens. The north end is tormented by a heat pump; the south end is shaded by trees. The back part of the bed is shaded most of the day. The front part that isn’t under the trees gets full sun. I use the bed for cut flowers and call it a cottage garden, but it’s really just a chaotic mess without any kind of structured eye appeal.

It pumps out great bouquets, though.
