    Removed dead rhodie Frontyard garden
The poor thing never did well, and this summer’s heat did it in. When I dug it out, the roots were all bound up, I don’t think there was any soil at all in the root ball. Either some really bad landscapers did the planting, or the last owner had no idea. I suspect the former. Most of ...

Planted Heuchera Frosted Violet Planting Out and Frontyard garden
Finally decided to plant this Heuchera next to my existing one. But that meant digging out a bunch of columbines and daylilies from that corner of the border. No big loss. Now maybe my campanula will actually thrive now that it doesn’t have so much competition. Also ended up digging up a bu...

Bug magnet! Goldenrod Flowering and Frontyard garden
I am so glad I got this plant! It’s doing very well, fits into its space nicely, and has lots of big flower spikes on it. The flowers just started opening and it’s attracting all sorts of good bugs (the main reason I planted it). Longhorn beetles, a clearwing moth, bumble and honey be...

Mulch! Backyard garden , Frontyard garden , The side yard garden , and Bees & Bugs garden
After last winter’s heavy snow, and losing a few plants to it, I decided it was well time to give all the beds a fat layer of mulch. And since we were taking the bamboo we’ve been thinning to the mulch place, I picked up a truck load of high-quality hemlock bark mulch while we were th...

Blooming Narcissus "Kissproof" Blooming and Frontyard garden
Only a couple of the bulbs I put in last fall have come up, two are now blooming. Maybe the heavy snow killed them, but I’m more than a little disappointed.

Dead Gaura 'Siskiyou Pink' Dying and Frontyard garden
No longer holding out any hope that this plant survived the winter. The woody stems are all rotted and detached. I will try again, I think I have a better spot that’s further away from the strangling daylilies.

Dead Red Hot Poker 'Flamenco' Dying and Frontyard garden
I don’t think this pathetic thing managed to survive the heavy snow this winter. Oh well, it never thrived, don’t think I’ll try again.
