graibeard's Arbor garden

These mesh Trellis’s or Arbors span the footpaths between the various garden beds. The idea is that beans, cucumbers or other climbing vegetables can be grown at the edge or border of each garden bed and up over the footpath.
No need to climb all over the garden beds to harvest the crop, take some small steps (ladder) and do it from the walkway. Hopefully they won’t interfere with the through traffic, if they do grow a bit wider than expected then they can be set back from the borders edge at the next planting.
Located in Melbourne, Australia, graibeard's Arbor garden is an outdoor organic garden that currently contains 1 plants.
This is a Footpath garden that is known to be in USDA Hardiness Zone 10. It has mainly Sand soil and receives Full Sun light.Photos

These mesh arbors are a great idea. You could do this with peas too right?

Yep. Get a heavy bearing climbing pea and it would certainly work. You might want then a bit wider than these (which are 300mm) to get a heavier yield for the vertical space, but it also depends a lot on the variety planted.

Thanks. I will experiment. I like the idea of going vertical. I saw on someone else’s journal ? the other day a hanging strawberry set up and I thought that would be good to try here too..

Vertical strawberries are the way to go, especially when chooks take a liking to them. Leaves, green (even white) immature strawberries are devoured. I have to get mine out of the bed and out of harms way.
I’m thinking that my recent Comfrey tea column could have been a really good strawberry tower as well!
I have a vague recollection of someone using a shoe organizer, the type that hangs on a door and has a pocket per shoe. They used it to hold pots, possibly strawberries?

Thanks Hedge. It will be really nice when it’s all setup here at the new garden. They were a good way to manage space and added character as well.
