Alchemilla's Alchemilla Herb garden

The Alchemilla herb garden was started in 2008. It involved bringing in a backhoe to turn and double-dig the soil, due to the fact that 6-12 inches below the surface was a layer of bedrock, in addition to the top soil being completely compacted – it was previously used as a dog training arena and the owners had the soil compacted yearly. With the addition of several inches of compost, manure, greensand, rock phosphate and some good tilling, we have built the soil up from barren, compacted clay, into a fairly good quality planting soil where we had a season of beautiful flowers and foliage from our medicinal herbs.
