This part of the garden had a big make over at the weekend. The Chickens had got in and done more damage to the hostas than an army of slugs. Everything needed heaving out, soothing and replacing carefully so as to disguise the damage. Finally, I opted for a rather ugly piece of chicken wire to keep the girls out.
Grace and I had seen a hazel obalisk in Bumbles, but I thought I could make one. Well, it took about a week, as I got distracted half way through, and we have ended up with two; one about head height and the other a litle shorter. They may not be as fancy as the Bumbles ones, but they were free from the hedgerow; and free is good.
Gloomy corner now consists of ferns and hostas, two free obalisks and a couple of plants that may finnish up somewhere else. Some repotting will be needed in the spring.
