My lower backyard is part of the patio/deck off the sun room. Parts of it get a few hours of sun each day and other parts are mostly shady. This garden has a waterfall and is on a slope. The hardscape was completed in 2007 and the initial plants were planted by the landscaper. I am slowly adding to the plant list. My goal is a casual, cottage garden look. I go organic as much as I can, but I’m still learning about that also.
I also have two 60+ pound dogs that have the full run of the yard so I have a couple of places that I just mulch and leave it free for the dogs to have a path.

Dear Shadow:
Wow! You have a beautiful garden. I don’t see a Clethera shrub. MMMMmm…Would you like to buy mine? I made a mistake purchasing this plant in August because of it’s terrific fragrance. It takes more water than I am willing to give it, as I am aiming for a dry rain garden. …No pressure.
Sincerely,
kcmarcey

Thanks. Sorry for the delay I couldn’t figure out how to read the comment at first. :-) We moved here in 2006 from Colorado and I’m enjoying getting back to plants that my family grew in Tennessee when I was a kid. I’m not sure what a Clethera shrub is. I might be interested but I have allergies and it depends on what it smells like. As long as it’s not right next to my sitting area I might be interested.
I’m also interested in learning what a “dry” rain garden is. I had a nice xerioscape front yard in Colorado (plants that like it dry and not just a rock garden) but I’ve never heard of a dry rain garden.
