Started in the fall of 2007, our the main garden in the front of the house might best be described at Mediterranean meets English Country Garden. The house is located in Pender Harbour, north of Sechelt on the coast of mainland British Columbia. The Zone 7-8 garden faces north. Beginning with our ideas and a design plan from designer Mickie Hale of Roberts Creek, BC. The soil is poor and the deer are plentiful, so there are plenty of challenges in creating this new garden.
I am assembling plants (deer resistant) and getting them started in their places in the garden. In the plan is a small waterfall and creek bed, which will ends at a pond beside a north-west facing patio. This phase is slated for completion in 2010.
Parts of the garden include a herb garden neat the front door; a berm, to shield the patio from the road; the waterfall, stream, and patio; and a flat area of border plantingbeside the driveway.
