Marked as 2b on the plan
This is my hot and dry garden. Both the Buddleja and the Rosemary flourished here before the builders came last year. The garden is still in a bit of a mess, and needs the rubble and concrete digging out before a major rethink about planting.
I may give it over to the kids so that they have somewhere to grow things. Littlest in particular is really keen on having somewhere to dig.
This spot is so sheltered from wind, and the soil so good, I can seriously consider growing non hardy perennials here. This corner has not had frost in it for over 2 years now.
The sun is on it from around 11am until it sets behind the shed. The soil is like a good ‘breadcrumb’ mix when you are making pastry – it holds together when you squeeze it, but crumbles easily when rubbed. There is enough sand and gravel in the soil for it to be well drained, and yet, in a dry spell, it holds moisture just a centimetre or so below the surface. Really, gardening could not come any easier, with soil like this, almost anything will grow. My success comes down to that, and not any skill or knowledge I have.
Purely for ownership issues, this patch will now be subdivided again so that my children can claim ownership of their patches. I am sorry this is so confusing for you, but in the end I put my own health and safety before clarity in a blog. You work it out :-)
