Caroline_Bartel's Shale garden

We declared war on the lawn! Rather than spending the time and effort to water, mow and care for grass that is sickly and unused, we decided to tear it all up and replace it with rocks and flowering perennials that would be low-maintenance, drought tolerant, and more interesting to look at. Luckily, we had access to a great source of beautiful B.C. shale near the vacation property owned by my family, and trucked in a number of loads to cover the ground. Next, I planted a variety of shrubs and forbes that I am hoping will survive in our dry, cold climate. I will be posting my success stories to share!
