Happibun's The People's Republic of China garden

Garden Type: Shade | Sun: Full Shade | Soil: Loam I'm Organic!

This garden is shown as 2d on the plan.

OK. The people are made of terracotta, and not china, but that did not stop the First Qin Emperor either.

Why call it the people’s republic of China? Well apart from all the people, it’s dominated by a socking big wall (well fence) which keeps it in permanent shade. Even though my Back garden is so small, it makes sense to name the little patches or areas in it different names for easy navigation. Especially since they all have their own little micro climates.

The terracotta people came from a student art exhibition that some friends of mine were participating in. At the end of the exhibition we were asked to take as many as we wanted from the thousands that were there. I chose the ones that appealed to me, almost all being parent and children figures.

Were the people from Anthony Gormley’s ‘Field’ by any chance? The last school I worked at contributed to that – I even made a couple myself!

I love this little garden, and the people are so cool!
