Welcome to my front garden. My house faces East, and so this garden gets sun only for a couple of hours in the morning. Even then, the plants at the southern end have to be shade loving, because they get no direct sun at all, due to the permanent shade from our next door neighbour’s wall.
Actually it is tiny, no more than a glorified window box really. When we moved in 10 years ago, the whole of it was laid out as gravel. I seem to remember that I set to to change that within the first few weeks, certainly before I attacked the back garden.
I removed the gravel, took out the impervious membrane, and then laid down a porous one which I cut holes in just larger than the beds that are laid out now.
I marked out the beds by laying bricks down loose around the edges, then relaid gravel over the ‘paths’ between the beds.
Located in Lincolnshire, United Kingdom, Happibun's 1. Formal Front garden is an outdoor organic garden that currently contains 18 plants.
This is a Formal garden that is known to be in USDA Hardiness Zone 8b. It has mainly Loam soil and receives Partial Sun light.Photos
