For the first time in my life I have the time, energy and space to garden and I’m loving it!! My husband and I bought a house 4 years ago that had recently been landscaped. Beautiful beds with flowing concrete curbing and soft sandy loam soil that I can actually work and amend (my prior garden had a lot of rock and not much soil.) Several large rocks were brought in for hardscaping so I have a good foundation from which to develop the garden. I’m having the best time planting ground covers and ferns and grasses and creating little enchanting spaces in my garden. And that’s just the front yard!!

In the back I have a bed running all around the yard by the fence. This area is where I have started planting my vegetables and herbs. I’m still learning what fits where…like this year I planted butternut squash in too small a space and now have it growing out of the fence and into the driveway!! Next year it will go somewhere else.

My next big project is to start composting….this sandy loam needs LOTS of compost and amendments!
