Various bits of tidying up today; the main one was digging out the remnants of last year’s plants from the bed by the side fence and lightly turning the soil with a hand fork. I’ll give the birds a few days to pick over it and then scatter some compost over the top as a start on condi...Mostly Cloudy 10°C / 50°F -

The weather has been very pleasant this weekend and we have spent some time working in the back garden. We are not quite onto planting things yet (although need to get round to it) but are doing some preparatory groundwork – painting the fence and expanding one of our raised beds to alter a...Sunny 12°C / 54°F -

The last of the beans was harvested yesterday, stalks removed for the compost heap and the ground partially dug. We need to get some fresh compost in there and then consider what to overwinter on this patch.Overcast 18°C / 64°F -

My Tragopogon pratensis (Goatsbeard) seedlings are tough little things. I managed to let them dry out on the paper towel where they were chitting, which put an end to the first few seeds to sprout. However, a couple more came up – these have now been transferred into a module in the polytun...Rainy 21°C / 70°F -

What could this plant be? Helianthus something?
Heliopsis helianthoides and Front gardenI was given this plant by my brother about ten years ago, with a clump dug up from his garden, and it has travelled with us through subsequent relocations. I used to call it Rudbeckia but, having become a bit more plant savvy, I think the leaves are wrong and it looks more like some kind of Helia...Rainy 21°C / 70°F
