I’ve been gardening since my Dad and Mom let me plant columbine seeds I’d gathered from my grandparents’ house. My first gardening memory is from around age 7, of my Dad planting sweet potato slips. I was amazed at how the vines grew, and I was hooked.
With a plant-chewing indoor-only cat I don’t keep the houseplants I’d love to have.
I start most of my plants from seed and by propagation and love participating in plant swaps.
A mom to two, I am happily married to a non-gardener who is super supportive. This means no competition/disagreement on garden issues, as long as I leave him room for his horseshoe pits!
One of my favorite things is to watch my children playing in the garden, discovering the bugs, flowers and wildlife. My 4 year-old wants to plant every seed he finds. That is how I think the love of gardening is formed and I hope to see it grow in my children.
