    Does chard send up multiple sprouts? 2
    First time growing swiss chard… I’m noticing multiple sprouts in some of my plantings. I KNOW I only planted one little seed pod thingy per hole. But some of them have 4-5 sprouts. 1) is that normal? 2) how much should I thin them?

    Stretching Heads Mammoth Sunflower and Back Fence Garden garden
    The sunflower heads are now beginning to stretch upward, away from the body of the plant. Won’t open for a while yet,… they have some growing to do first.

    Pokey Carrot Sprouts 3 Carrot Nelson Hybrid Sprouting and Wen's Square Foot Garden garden
    Planted next to the radishes, the carrots seem SO slow to sprout. About a quarter of them popped up over night. If they are going to make it by frost, they better step lively.

    I’m packaging up some burpless cucumber seeds to go off into the world. It’s all very exciting isn’t it? In a dorky-gardener sort of way. I can’t wait to find out they are received and I look forward to seeing how they do down the road.

    The chives seem happier since the zucchini came out and they are no longer shaded. Still… they are not doing fantastic. None cut yet… been sitting all summer.

    Hello Beautiful! Red Bell Peppers Harvesting and Wen's Square Foot Garden garden
    First mature red bell pepper of the summer. Long time coming, but so worth the wait. Now how to eat it? Hubby is lobbying for fresh grilled on a sausage dog. I’m thinking 3 cheese and veggie panini. There might be a brawl in the kitchen tonight.

    Just Sliced: THIS is why I grow tomatoes! 7 14 School Tomato: Brandywine and Wen's Square Foot Garden garden
    It was a delicious sandwich. I’d have photographed it… but I HAD TO EAT IT as soon as I put the top slice of bread on. There was simply no time for photographing it. I almost tear up now remembering it… my first one slice sandwich this summer.
