So I sat down today and did some research to identify what exactly is in my Mesclun mix, since it can vary so much from seed packet to seed packet. It seems I have these:
Purple Mustard Green
Chicory
Mizuna
Mustard Green
and Sorrel (I have sorrel!)

I cut the two largest leaves today and put them in my fall greens salad for lunch. I did love the flavor and texture they added to the salad. Alone, however, they are a bit too much like the taste of beet for me. Beets are my least fave growing edible.

Yum! Got the first of the watermelons yesterday. Brought it right in the house and cut it straight away. The kids, my own and neighbors, dug right in! It’s a good size… just enough to satisfy, none left over to sticky up the frig.

I never knew that each seed has it’s own slower. It’s quite amazing to me… that the map to do this all over again, and again, is contained within each of these seeds.

The tomatoes have slowed down, but the plants are still going. It’s fun to watch, but I think its time to top them so they can ripen up all the fruit still on them before frost. First frost will come just over a month from now.

The mesclun mix, despite the work of the caterpillars, is really filling in and giving me daily goodness for the table. It’s actually a pretty short row, but they really have produced. I just love the look of all the different leaves and the bite that they add to the salads these days.
