Received and Planted 2 Frontyard & Porch Goodies garden
I received a lovely gift box today from Janietta. She sent along some tubers for Red Hot Poker and a cling-on oregano plant. I separated the tubers into 3 small clumps and planted them out. THANKS SO MUCH, JANIETTA!

Identifying The Mix: Mesclun 1 3 Mesclun Harvesting and Back Fence Garden garden
So I sat down today and did some research to identify what exactly is in my Mesclun mix, since it can vary so much from seed packet to seed packet. It seems I have these: Purple Mustard Green Chicory Mizuna Mustard Green and Sorrel (I have sorrel!) They are surely delicious and a perfect compleme...

First Taste: Vulcan Swiss Chard 3 Vulcan Swiss Chard Harvesting and Wen's Square Foot Garden garden
I cut the two largest leaves today and put them in my fall greens salad for lunch. I did love the flavor and texture they added to the salad. Alone, however, they are a bit too much like the taste of beet for me. Beets are my least fave growing edible. Once washed, chopped and dressed they were l...

First watermelon 1 1 Watermelons Harvesting and Back Fence Garden garden
Yum! Got the first of the watermelons yesterday. Brought it right in the house and cut it straight away. The kids, my own and neighbors, dug right in! It’s a good size… just enough to satisfy, none left over to sticky up the frig.

I never knew that each seed has it’s own slower. It’s quite amazing to me… that the map to do this all over again, and again, is contained within each of these seeds.

Attack of the TOMATOES 3 2 Wen's Square Foot Garden garden
The tomatoes have slowed down, but the plants are still going. It’s fun to watch, but I think its time to top them so they can ripen up all the fruit still on them before frost. First frost will come just over a month from now. If I had to guestimate… Mr. Stripey and Sweet 100 are eac...

So beautiful 2 1 Mesclun and Back Fence Garden garden
The mesclun mix, despite the work of the caterpillars, is really filling in and giving me daily goodness for the table. It’s actually a pretty short row, but they really have produced. I just love the look of all the different leaves and the bite that they add to the salads these days.
