    Feathered vandals 2 Simplicity garden
I found plants ripped out in my garden this morning. It’s a good thing I didn’t water last night and was anxious about little seedlings this morning. I found a dill and a cosmos ripped out and lying on the ground. At first I thought it was kids. Then I saw a sprouting potato pulled up...

This is the first time this year I’ve picked enough of something to take it home and cook. I pulled up a handful arugula thinnings last night and cooked them into my scrambled eggs and cheddar this morning. I didn’t weigh them but an ounce would be a good guess. They weren’t nea...

One sprout here too Mesclun (Providence A1) and Simplicity garden
Also one sprout. What ever it is looks blue-green and very sturdy - the leaf looks thick, like a cabbage leaf, and instead of a couple of leaves poking up on a stem, the shape is more cylindrical-imagine a sheet of paper rolled into a very tight tube with one corner poking out at the top of the t...

One sprout Lettuce, Super Gourmet Salad Blend (Persistence D3) and Simplicity garden
There is one sprout in this square. One. According to my timeline, they aren’t due to sprout until next week, which seems like a long, long time to me. Unfortunately, squinching up my eyes and staring hard at the sprouts doesn’t seem to speed things up any. I suppose it could even be ...

    Rain 2
I was going to water late this evening, on my way home from Bible study. But during Bible study the rain started, a sweet cool mist that has slowly strengthened to a drizzle. So I will wait until morning to go check on all my little seedlings.

Coco Rose de Prague - frustrating results of internet research 4 Bean, Coco Rose de Prague
I must have better things to do with my time. But apparently not today. Once again, I tried to find more information on a seed that I bought because I found its French name and brief description appealing. And it only cost 35 cents, which makes it much easier to make an impulse buy (I think altog...

    Happy Birthday, Katxena! 1 4
Katxena mentioned that the 18th is her birthday (I think I have the days straight). Happy birthday Katxena! Please help yourself to some virtual arugula sprouts and baby nasturtium leaves from my garden. And while I’m at it, I will offer you virtual chocolate cake and a nice steaming hot la...

Beans are growing fast — potatoes and arugula (in photo) are clearly conspiring for world domination. Carrots and radishes still tiny but continuing to emerge; still no sign of parsnips. Spotted a tiny fruit on one of my Brandywine tomatoes today. It’s about as big as, oh, a small gra...

    HullessBarley Mix
I planted seeds from a mix of hulless barley from Synergy Seeds. The seeds are from last year. I started plugging them in about 4 inches apart and then I thought about their germination rate and just broadcast them and raked them in with my fingers. If they are too heavy I’ll thin them.

Transplants Neutral Simplicity garden , Cosmos Transplanted, Dill, Bouquet Transplanted, and Onion, Florence Red Transplanted
Moved 5 onions (Florence Reds), 1 lemon basil, 4 dill and 1 cosmos into Simplicity garden, from 1 inch cells. It’s REALLY HARD to get plants out of 1 inch cells without hurting them. I’m just not going to use them again, I think. If I don’t have larger inserts, I’ll just r...
