When I was a kid my parents practically had to drag me to the garden by my hair, so they chuckle now at my obsession. Since I now live on top of 18 feet of pure sand, I garden in raised beds and containers. My sweet husband Larry helps me with construction and heavy lifting.
Heirloom tomatoes fascinate me, and for about six weeks at the end of summer I pretty much live on tomato sandwiches and caprese salad! I also enjoy growing herbs, greens, summer squash, and cucumbers. For some reason I keep trying to grow melons in Minnesota with extremely limited success so far, but every spring there seem to be new promising varieties. I am better at being seduced into buying flowering plants at garden centers than I am at building up new flower beds to put them in!
My 2010 experiments include Sunberries, Agretti, and several Vietnamese herbs, including one known to me only as Cook with Chicken, Makes Body Strong.
