An Appalachian country girl moved to the city.
My grandmother and mother were farm girls; I inadvertently learned gardening from them because everyone planted and canned vegetables.
Then, I wanted to get rid of the horrid front bushes so we wound up with a shade garden under the cherry tree, and that’s when I found out just how much I had learned by osmosis.
Then, I wanted herbs to cook with so we wound up with an herb garden on the east side.
Then, I couldn’t stand the ugly azaleas on the west side, so we ripped all that out and just tried putting in a flowery sun garden.
The back is still a mess and will be until we get the home addition built.
We fight a constant battle against deer.
