Country boy who moved to the city….then back to the country. My Lovely Wife and I currenty live in an old farm house on a 3 acre lot. I have always had a garden. Growing up My Mother and Gradmother asways had gardens. My scout master was a market gardener and I learned a lot of very good tips just helping him out in the summers. In college I had ledge garden. When I moved to the I tilled under most of my postage stamp yard for vegetables/flower beds. With our move to our current home the garden expanded exponentially.
50’X100’ main vegetable garden
25’X25’ Potato patch
Flower beds being added at regular intervals
I try to raise everything organically, but there are certain pests I reserve the right to nuke (Canadian Thistle,Flea Beetles and Mexican Flea Beetles..I am watching you!) We also raise chickens…for eggs and for meat. Chicken bedding is a wonderful garden additive. I feel pretty lucky to be in our current position. We raise 80% of our meat and 50% of our vegetables. Looking forward to raising that vegetable number some this year.
