05 May 2009Copper Spray Otra Vez 2 Apple 'Yellow Newtown Pippin' Flowering, Apple 'Hauer Pippin' , Apple 'Belle de Boskoop' , and Medlar 'Nott...Overcast 16°C / 60°F
Another break in the rain means another spritz with copper. I hit everything I could see.
The Newtown Pippin has set some fruit but also has some set fruit. The Hauer Pippin may have some set fruit but it’s not looking good.

05 May 2009Budget: Replacements 2 The Waiting Room gardenSome seedlings I planted didn’t survive various calamities. Some starts I bought didn’t survive (the lemon cuke was devoured by molluscs). So today I reluctantly spent more $ to replace things or get things I’ve been after. No luck finding Pepperoncini starts (good lord, they ha...Overcast 14°C / 58°F

04 May 2009Teensy Sprouts Irish Moss SproutingRainy 14°C / 57°F
As befits the microscopic seeds, the sprouts themselves are so small it’s easy to miss them. I didn’t bother trying to take a picture. I don’t think my macro mode could handle something that small.

02 May 2009Don't Count Your Chickens 2 1 Sweet Cherry 'Minnie Royal' and Party in the Back gardenRainy 17°C / 63°F
Great bloom. Very good fruit set. Slugs started to eat. Worried about birds so I bought bird netting. Today I went out to find many of the fruits had split! I’ll have to write to the nursery to see if that’s something this cultivar is known for or what.
I ate two of the split ones. Th...

01 May 2009In Flower For a While 1 2 Dwarf Lingonberry 'Minus' FloweringI thought I’d taken a picture of when it first started to bloom this year but I guess I didn’t. It’s been in bloom for a couple weeks. It’s very small (smaller than it was when it was planted, due to bad siting by the landscaper) so it’s not bloom after bloom, but th...Overcast 14°C / 57°F
