We were fortunate to buy 14 acres and build a new house four years ago. I have been developing my gardens since moving in. Although it was hard to leave my old gardens, I brought many starts with me. Several of the plants are “heirloom” in the sense that they began their journey in my great grandmother and great aunt’s gardens. I also have starts from my husband’s grandmother and our mothers and sisters. A brother-in-law has contributed many “prizes” also! These are special to me for the link they provide to family.

At my old garden, my husband and I build a small goldfish pond. I decided to enlarge it after moving! Jim rented a backhoe and we ended up with an 11,000 gallon Koi pond! I’m still trying to fill it with plants.

We have several deer, but I have attempted to use deer-resistant plants and have had only one casualty…a Dappled Willow shrub. (It was not replaced!) We did have to build a six foot fence around our vegetable garden.

I was excited to find this site. I am able to garden online while waiting for spring to arrive!
