An American in Canada, I’m trying to adjust to living in a Midwestern climate (humidity) after some years living in the nice, arid Southwest. It’s better for growing gardens here than there. I’m a terrible procrastinator, but I’ve improved greatly from the year I planted my veggies on the 4th of July! (Yes, I harvested my tomatoes in October, a lot were still green). Still, I’m determined to become a gardener of sorts, and aim for perennials for my flower gardens (then I don’t have to worry about being a procrastinator – LOL!)
I’ve had gardens for a few years, mostly in containers. That started while living in a condo with only a balcony to work on. I love my Earth boxes; they’re great for cukes and tomatoes. Wish I had more of them.
This is the first house where I’ve had to actually start a flower garden – the property was a rental before and the yard was VERY neglected. The challenge is that, here in Toronto, we aren’t allowed to use herbicides (except Round-up) or pesticides. I look forward to learning how to deal with the weeds and the bugs!
