Sunny 27°C / 81°FIt’s really amazing how much more life has come to the backyard. The vegetables have brought in all sorts of new insects and multitudes of the old ones. Absent are the snails, haven’t seen one around in a while. There seems to be some evidence of their continued existence, a munch her...

Sunny 27°C / 81°FAll of the plantings are doing well. I had to re-sow the Italian basil because it looks like some sneaky birds got to all but one of the seedlings, but the new seeds have germinated. The only one that is a worry is the caraway, it seems finicky about water. Purple basil looks awesome!

34°C / 94°FI hope these little pots grow for the big W. This is a great experiment, at the very least. I have 11 different herbs seeded, with more to come, but sadly I didn’t have the foresight to have labels for them. Sure I can figure it out later, but for now they remain anonymous. I’ve neve...

Sunny 34°C / 94°FIt’s on! The sun is shining and the plants are doubling in size. If today is any indication I might have a real hard time of keeping things hydrated – 90 degree weather already! Not to mention that I have to carry water out from the kitchen to actually water everything, since we do no...

We’ve had about 5 straight days of rain and the plants are drinking it up. Only thing is, there are about 5 snails per square yard of surfaces outside. So many! I remember a similar stretch of rain last year having the same effect. I crushed one by acc...19°C / 66°F -

The seedlings got their first dose of the outdoors yesterday. They won’t be going out tonight with the severe weather reports coming out, but I hope to get them hardened by mid May for transplanting! These growth updates are also overdue. All but the swiss chard and thyme have true leaves! ...Rainy 18°C / 64°F -

Cloudy 16°C / 61°FThe numbers are in! The sample of soil from the back plot has been worked over and scienced-up by the Environmental Sciences Analytical Center at Brooklyn College. We ordered an analysis of heavy metals and micro nutrients. Although I’m not surprised by the results, I am now assured that it...
