    Temperatures Drop....

….and it was not at all unpleasant. 55 degrees much more sensible in March in Maine than 80 degrees. I made some plant markers by recycling the plastic of a laundry detergent bottle. I usually recycle those bottles any way but now will have a better use for the next couple of empty bottles....

    Slow day....

    Jessica Dixon
Not doing much in the way of gardening today unless I count my time at myFolia. I did learn a new thing or two about the site. I have ‘birth’ my first virtual garden. Bought my seedlings list down to Jessica…my neighbor/farmer who grows my seedlings. I think I may have left off ...

    Spring is POPPING......

……more so on neighbors’ land than mine. I’ve heard mention of blooming crocus which is not happening here yet as my house is up on posts rather than a cement basement foundation. Also, Louise’s forsythia was not blooming at 3:00pm but was in full bloom by the time we...

HOUSE SOUTH garden , GROTTO garden , KIDNEY garden , Phlox paniculata 'Fujiyama' , Jacobs Ladder polmonium...
Again, I’ve resisted putting barn boots on (they protect me from mud and ticks) when I went out for my morning look-see. I have a tendency to poke here and there and am afraid my anticipation is warped by this freaky weather we’re having in March….and said anticipation can cause...

    More Gardens Cleaned

Sedum#4G 'autumn joy' (CentPer) , Daffodil 60Q small but tall yellow/yellow (Center/north-west) , NORTH PER...
Much ground drying since yesterday; no ‘puddle’ south of the Kidney Garden. I cleaned out Center Strip and North Strip, took many wheelbarrow’s full of leaves to the BIG compost bin. Saw signs of life in Center Strip, namely north Sedum (there are two) and Daffodils west of the...

    Still Too Wet

Centurea pink , Strawberries , Crocus fall , and Crocus fall Sprouting
…..to be working in the gardens. Got House South and Grotto cleaned and just about all of Kidney Garden but Kidney was almost soft so it’s not complete. It would be better for me to put time into cleaning out the Vegetable Garden…stakes, posts, etc. But, it was a glorious day and I got out the pl...

Cleaned the House South Garden of Winter debris….on my knees. Also removed rocks and used them to fill in low spots on the driveway. I saw the tiniest sign of life in the following plants in their respective gardens: House South Garden: Monkshood, Peony, (orig) Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’...

    Like a Spring Day!

Smoke Bush , Strawberries , Hydranger 'Pee Gee' , Lilac Fr. 'James MacFarlane' Budding, Lilac 'Charles Joly...
abc garden The only downside to the day was our annual town meeting; didn’t go as I wanted. But, when I got home, I took a careful stroll on ‘walkable’ ground; most is still mushy and/or covered with some snow/ice. I saw lilac shrubs with plump buds. Not so for Hydranger ‘...

    Seeds in the Mail!

abc garden Fedco seeds arrived in the mail and that’s always a happy event…….even though there is still snow on the ground and I’m not starting any seedlings indoors. The snow is, however, receding nicely. North of the center Vegetable Garden path is snow-less and closer ...
