20 Sep 2009Ready soon 3 Okra 'Clemson Spineless' and Atop the Air-Cons gardenStorms 30°C / 86°F
I’m quite impressed that the okra also survived the excessive epsom salting saga as well. Although a number of flowers that were developing have fallen off, but the 2 fruits that were developing have gotten bigger and appear ready to be eaten. Yay, shall cut them off and give them a littl...

20 Sep 2009Be strong Tomato 'Broad Ripple Yellow Currant' and Atop the Air-Cons gardenStorms 30°C / 86°F
The only surviving tomato plant after my over epsom salting is this one, which was the biggest one in the first place. Guess it was just strong enough to survive the whole episode. It’s still flowering profusely, although no fruiting as yet. No direct sunlight at the moment anyway, altho...

20 Sep 2009Tempting 2 Lettuce 'Mignonette' and Atop the Air-Cons gardenOvercast 31°C / 88°F
The lettuce is doing rather well. I was surprised as I thought the spinach would succeed and these would fail, but it worked out the opposite way. When I look at the lettuce, it reminds me of the Rapunzel story where the mum succumbs to tempting lettuce. Shall try to plant more of these. Prob...

18 Sep 2009What to do with soil? 12 Atop the Air-Cons gardenOops, I added too much epsom salts to the soil and it appears all my plants are dying. It’s actually okay, since there is no sunlight entering my house at this time so it’s better to replant anyway. But I wonder whether I should reuse the soil since there is too much magnesium in it...Overcast 26°C / 79°F

13 Sep 2009Pretty white flowers 3 Okra 'Clemson Spineless' Flowering and Atop the Air-Cons gardenOvercast 30°C / 86°F
I’d never seen okra flowers before so I thought the spiky-looking buds were baby okras, so I was quite surprised when the spikes actually blossomed one morning into really pretty white flowers. Almost like an ugly duckling turning into a swan.

13 Sep 2009Wonder Salts 2 Atop the Air-Cons gardenOvercast 30°C / 86°F
Upon the advice of Cmagnus, I went around hunting for Epsom Salts to hopefully stop the yellowing and browning on the leaves of some of my plants. The nearby farms / nurseries didn’t stock them, but I was surprised that the neighbourhood pharmacy did. These Epsom Salts are like wonder sal...

All the plants are getting bigger. Some of the tomato plants are not taking. Probably wrong climate. The rest are just getting bigger and hopefully will develop buds soon.

09 Sep 2009Bud drops but fingers crossed Okra 'Clemson Spineless' and Atop the Air-Cons gardenOvercast 28°C / 82°F
These plants are getting big and beautiful. They started budding a few weeks ago but the earlier buds fell off. The remaining few are still hanging on and getting bigger, so hopefully they will develop into actual okra.
