    Massacre

    Bean Orca and Vegetable garden
We placed 8 slug traps throughout the garden last night. We will be adding more. We put one can of beer in each. I checked this morning and they were all full of drowned slugs. Hundreds died last night.

    Slugs!

    Bean Orca and Vegetable garden
It’s been raining steadily here since yesterday evening. The slugs came with it and ate my young bean plants overnight. There are very few survivors. It’s so late in the season to start over, but I’m going to give it a try. My boyfriend is picking up some cheap beer on the w...

    Bumble bee nests

    Berry Patch garden
As we were cleaning out the back of an old pickup we plan to sell I picked up an old birdhouse amongst a bunch of odds & ends and it as full of bumblebees! I RAN with it to the back of the property and left it by the Himalayan blackberries. I spent the next couple of hours catching returnin...

    Starlings ate cucs

    Cucumber and Vegetable garden
Two days after transplanting my cucumbers the starlings had eaten all but a couple of them. I bought flash tape and am starting again. So frustrating.

    Transplanting between rain showers

    Bean Orca and Vegetable garden
I transplanted the bush beans between rain showers. It was cold and wet and miserable, but the soil was beautiful to work. It crumble wonderfully in my hands, yet the sides of the holes didn’t cave in. It started thundering again when I was on the last row, but I finished up and made it ...

    Something is sprouting

    Herbal Renewal garden
There are a couple of plants sprouting in my mixed bed of dill, chamomile, anise hyssop, and amaranth. Unfortunately, since I’ve never grown any of these plants before, I will not be able to identify them until they are larger. But hey, there’s life!

    Sappy amatuer poetry

My Favorite Rhodie* Delicate palest pink lavender almost white Quiet and unassuming Lighting a dark corner The enchantress sighs peace into my heart Providing employment to fat bumblebees Their constant commotion Pulling my eyes from blossom to blossom They are caught in her spell as well I sit a...

    Ants

    Patio garden
While adding soil and resetting the pavers in this garden I uncovered an ant nest. My son didn’t want me to kill them. It is SO COOL to have an ant nest in the flower bed. They fertilize and aerate the soil, blah, blah, blah. So I carefully set the paver back over the nest and worked ar...
