My family has been growing different plants for years, ranging from ornamentals to vegetables and fruit trees. Right now I’m trying my hand in growing some herbs using SNAP hydroponics ( http://www.mixph.com/2008/09/snap-for-hydroponics.html ). SNAP hydroponics was created at the College of Agriculture in University of the Philippines, Los Banos. It’s a beginner-friendly set-up that easy to maintain and uses no electricity. It’s also cheap since 90% of the set-up uses recycled materials. I get my SNAP hydroponic solution from a nearby supplier. All-in-all, the set-up costs me less that 800 Philippine Pesos (~15USD) which include the cost of the seeds, coco coir, perlite and the hydroponic solution.
Right now I’m trying out genovese basil, catmint, and small fry cherry tomatoes. In the future, I’d like to try growing butternut squash and round eggplants if the hydroponic set-up is successful.
