7.58 am
Cloud came in last night and it rained although not enough to register in the rain gauge, anyway we were saved from a frost. For the rest of the day, cloud streamed in through Eagle Pass, with some heavy showers, some sun and blustery wind.

28 Sep 2009More bulb planting 3Clear 7°C / 45°F
7.24 pm
This morning was not conducive to gardening, cloud, wind, clouds down on the mountains and when they lifted a fresh dusting of snow down to the lowest level so far. In fact, in the valley it was not as chilly as it looked and the sky overhead was clearing slowly. Two parcels at the post o...

27 Sep 2009Bay box and bulbs 6 3 Kevin's Michaelmas daisies , Shrubby Beard-Tongue , and PelagoniumsSunny 15°C / 59°F
4.39pm
I don’t think that the temperature has gone much above 15C today, a decided chill in the air but warm enough in the sun and if I keep moving. Despite legs that have muscles complaining at unaccustomed use and knees that definately don’t want to go up or down stairs, and a colle...

27 Sep 2009A flying visit 2Cloudy 4°C / 39°F
8.48am Sunday 18.2C/ 1.7C
Nothing got done in the garden at the weekend either. Early on Saturday morning my neighbour phoned to ask if I would like a lift down to Rossland, coming back on Sunday. So off I went for a brief visit to my daughter’s family. I didn’t take any photos of her...

24 Sep 2009These lovely days continue Rose 'Starry Night'Sunny 8°C / 46°F
8.49 am
The forecast rain slides further and further back and is now scheduled for next week, so I shall spend some more time in the garden today. First to water all the containers which are beginning to dry out, and then to finish settling in the Bay Box. I still have not decided how to disguise...

22 Sep 2009Succumbing to temptation 2 3. Bay window bed garden and Ajuta repens 'Atropurpurea'Sunny 19°C / 66°F
12.42 pm
Another glorious Fall day and I decided to tackle the ugly Bay container in which nothing seems to thrive. However before that I went and squirted a dilute mixture of organic dishwashing material and water on the roses in Porch and House which have whitefly. They also have blackspot, che...

20 Sep 2009Another frost warning 3 3Clear 12°C / 54°F
8.04 pm
It was 7C when I got up at 7.00am, with very heavy dew. Everything in the garden seems fine including begonias and other tender plants. Definately a chill in the air however the day warmed up and the sun shone. Frost warning tonight again, 4C, but 23C tomorrow and sunny for the rest of th...

9.21 pm
The temperature is forecast to go to 4C tonight with a risk of frost; the rest of the week has sunny days and mild temperatures with no really low overnight temperatures. The rain yesterday brought the rain gauge up to 3/8".
I decided to bring the orange tree, hibiscuses, and strepto...

18 Sep 2009Wasps 2 3 Sedum 'Autumn Joy'Overcast 14°C / 57°F
8.00 pm.
The pale stripes on the beams of the arbour are where wasps have peeled thin strips of wood off to build their nests. I have to say that I have never noticed them doing it – although I will keep an eye open now – my son pointed it out. We have had quite a lot of wasps nectar ...

18 Sep 2009Still warm 1 Golden Rod 'Fireworks' , Shrubby Potentilla 'Abbotswood' , and Clematis 'Golden Tiara'Clear 15°C / 59°F
8.13 pm
Some steady rain on Wednesday about 1/4", then it became fine and warm again; yesterday 22.5C /10.7C norms 17C/ 6C, and today after a damp start another warm sunny day. Now the trees are starting to turn colour, from the season not the drought. I also noted the potentillas blooming i...
