Cheese Louise 1 5 manzano pepper Harvesting
harvested another manzano pepper today and cut it up to put in some squash soup. good ness, but these are delicious peppers. the flesh is pretty thick and kind of smooth instead of crisp. both the texture and flavor recalled me of papaya… ridiculously spicy papaya. I think these will ma...

couldn’t stand it. I had to plant some more food. planted a one-gallon pot full of generally unhappy sea kale in the ground, where it should enjoy itself much more. then I pulled out the incredibly root-bound contents of a long-ish container that had been hanging on the railing: four labla...

of interest 1 4 cinnamon vine , more cinnamon vine , olive tree , and perique tobacco Flowering
main photo: my cherry tomato is going strong into November. #2: there’s a yam growing out the bottom of that pot. #3: another yam (or yams) is pushing the soil out of this pot. silly me for growing yams in little pots. #4: olive trying so hard to ripen. #5: at last, a ripe pepper. I’...

more moves 1 chufa Moved, Mexican sour gherkin Moved, and Mexican breadfruit Potting Up
moved a mouse melon inside. I know that mouse melons are perennial in warm climates, which is really the biggest reason I’m growing them, but I don’t know the best way to overwinter them here. don’t know whether moisture level or temperature or light level will cause dormancy,...

home improvement 2 1 living room floor garden
just finished up a major rearrangement of our small-ish living room with Kanna (who was driven to madness by the previous format), including my indoor garden. replaced the door on sawhorses with a shelf eight feet long in front of the window and moved the couch in front of that. found a small t...

impatience 4 achira Potting Up and living room floor garden
so, I gave up on these canna seeds and dumped the pot back into the bag of potting mix. fast forward several months to when I left town for a couple of weeks in September: my friend didn’t do such a hot job watering everything and my wasabi was looking pretty much dead when I got back. in...

    dripping 1 4 Mexican breadfruit
the leaves on several of my Monstera deliciosa plants are dripping a little bit of water. seems to be leaking out of the leaf margins. my first reaction was to taste the water, hoping it would be something tasty, but it’s just water. anybody know anything about this?

the cure 2 perique tobacco Harvesting and stumble garden
pulled some leaves off the tobacco plants and hung them up on our clothesline to cure. I’m not terribly interested in going to a lot of trouble over this, so this probably won’t turn out to be very good tobacco, but it’ll be a hoot to smoke some homegrown tobacco.
