    pansies

    indoor garden and propagating garden
I’ve gone and done it again! It’s another rainy day. Actually the rain hasn’t started, yet, but it’s cloudy & dreary and they’re forecasting 50mm within the next 24 hours. And that’s on top of the rain over the weekend and it rained ALL weekend. I enjoy ...

    lily lovers unite!

Another wet, dreary day. Thankfully, the new peonies are all in the ground. I’ve ordered more daffodils, dutch iris and of course, lilies, but they haven’t yet arrived. I’m hoping for better weather for when they do. Still no frost which means that we have had five full frost...

    still no frost... wonderful!

Well, here we are on the 29th of September and still no frost. I’m not complaining. In fact, I love it. No frost is the reason I still have dahlias and impatiens blooming. Asters I expect this late in September but impatiens? It’s great!

what an idiot I have been

Lilies! They smell like lilies!!! I keep sniffing the acidanthera, trying to place the scent. It smells so exquisite and smells so familiar but I haven’t been able to place it… until today. They smell like Bermuda Lilies. You’d think that I, orientallily, would have figure...

    what was I thinking?

    indoor garden
While giving the sunroom its semi-annual really good, from floor to ceiling clean yesterday, I tending to a few plants in there that had pretty much been ignored all summer… mostly amaryllids but also, a big old pot of freesia corms. I repotted those freesias and that’s when I reali...

freesias, plumeria, bourbon lilies, bermuda lilies & calla lilies

Okay, this is simply a means for me to keep track. I’ve planted five packages of seed within the last month and here are my results… Freesias – geminating all over the place. I see green!!! Plumeria – 7 of the 11 seeds have sent out roots. Looks very promising! Bourbon ...

    I can only dream

Well, it is the 22nd of September and there has still been no frost. It’s great! The first frost usually occurs two or three days before my birthday however last year, for the first time since I can remember, there was no frost until early October. It’s looking like this might happ...

    wrong date but perfect timing

I have a cold! Anyway, yesterday I was in my office trying to get some work done between blowing my nose and complaining that I needed someone to go out and get me some Puffs because I now looked very much like Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, when the florist called. They had flowers for me! Now...

white paint? or you know what...

    the trees in the garden
I just came in from moving the sprinkler from the woodland garden to the front yard where the linden I’ve underplanted with cowslips is growing. Those little primrose seedlings need to be watered in. Anyway, while fighting with the hose, I noticed a massive amount of bird droppings under ...

    name change

    woodland garden
First of all, I’ve changed the name of my ‘woodland retreat garden’ to simply the ‘woodland garden’. I think it sounds better. Secondly, and more importantly, I’ve done all I need to do in the ‘woodland garden’… for this year. The Primula a...
