Getting rid of PM - phase 2 1 1 Chrysanthemum Snowland Treating
This time, I got out the bicarb soda (NaHCO3) and made a 1% v/v solution. Squirted it all over the poor Chrysanthemum. Tried to avoid the two yellow ladybirds and house spider (but had no such restraint when it came to loopers)!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch... 4 2 Catmint , Echinacea , Chrysanthemum Snowland , Snail vine , Cardoon , and Artichoke
Have been away for about a week so it’s interesting to see the changes that have taken place in my absence. In general, things are still getting even bigger. The awkward gaps between the plants in July are being filled in. The gerbera, once tall and proud, is now hidden behind the expanding...

Harvest win! 5 Chamomile Harvesting, Catmint Harvesting, Lemongrass Harvesting, Kaffir Lime Harvesting, Rocket Harvesting,...
No – there aren’t any photos. Ate/drank it all too quickly! Harvest 1: Chamomile blossom, peppermint, catmint and lemon balm for night-time tea. Harvest 2: Lemon grass, lime leaves, peppermint, rocket (already going to flower!), borage, chilies (well, dried chilies from last year) and...

Dianella (flax lily) bud drop? 5
My Dianella has been growing a large number of blue flower buds over the past few weeks. Unfortunately, instead of starting to open, they are starting to brown and drop off. Ideas?

Strawberry vandal spotted scuttling along - but too late 2 Strawberries Harvesting
I do accept my responsibility as I have after all created a Rodent Refuge. The cat fencing keeps out the many strays and The Cat stays indoors at night. So it’s a safe playground for ratty and there are even fresh strawberries! Tactic 1: pick strawberries at end of day rather than morning &...

I'll get you next time critter, next time! 12 Strawberries Harvesting
Beautiful looking strawberry was just getting near full ripeness. I suspended it a good 3cm off the ground with a Y-shaped twig. This morning the side of the berry towards the sun (the side that was nearly ripe) was completely eaten away. Argh!

Dairy Plant 2 Chrysanthemum Snowland Treating
Mixed diluted milk (about 10%, skim!) and sprayed under and over leaves of cheesy chrysanthemum. (I thought it would worth trying as it looks like we’ll have a few days without rain so the leaves can have a nice sticky milk coating for some time.) The plant already smells like cheese –...

Photo update II 2 Brazilian Jasmine Blooming, Chamomile Blooming, Corydalis Blooming, and Aquilegia Blooming
Pic 1 – Is it a Venus Flytrap? No – it’s a Gerbera bud. Pic 2 – I’ve never seen a Ficus with pink trumpets before! Actually it’s the Dipladenia growing up the Ficus. Pic 3 – German Chamomile flowering. I wonder what is the best stage of flowering for pick...

Photo update 3 2 Pacific Coast Iris Blooming, Dutch Iris Blooming, and Osteospermum Blooming
Bit late this one (the irises have now already well and truly finished!). The intense blue iris was labelled “Blue diamond” on the pack. It seems that Blue diamond in Aus and NZ is a dark blue, while in Nth hemisphere its light blue. Odd. Final Gerbera pic has a little beastie having ...

Recent rain: The downs 2 Strawberries , Chrysanthemum Snowland , and Yellow lilies Dying
Strawberries are rotting. Chrysanthemum has white mould on it. Some of the pots have become blocked and ceased draining properly. This has caused some of the yellow lilies to rot (one might still come up), but surprisingly and wonderfully the Streptocarpus doesn’t seem too bothered. There a...
