I’m slowly turning into my mother!

Seriously, when I was growing up, I thought my mum, her garden, the pickles/jams/preserves were all a bit tragic and hippyish (although they WERE all delicious, the flowers were pretty, runner beans were great, and the lawn was nice to lie on)

As I grow, I see what it was all about, and why she did it. I appreciate her love, attention, diligence and care even more than I ever have done before: And I’d take pride in people calling me a hippy!

I love growing things, now… The fact that everything changes every time you look at it, the smell of the earth, the unfurling of the leaves, When I started, it was herbs, and flowers, because I thought that vegetables would be too much trouble. And, as someone said to me on a gardening forum: "Soon you’ll be onto the “hard stuff”. And so I started growing Veg…

Tentatively/enthusiastically (depending on my mood), often ineptly… But I’m doing it, and I love it, and that’s what it’s all about
