17 Mar 2009Harvest Spinach Harvesting and Balcony Mediterranean gardenReporting mildly successful transplant to a sunnier location, after some of the spinach got spindly. Of the transplants some have bolted and others have prospered somewhat. This week all were harvested on a daily basis for salads.Sunny 17°C / 63°F

The hyacinths are blooming and have a wonderful perfume. The daffodils are also doing well and forming blooms.

Yesterday, I added 10lbs of horse manure to the compost bin digging it in and mixing it into the kitchen scraps, kitty sawdust and earth already present. The bin is now filled to the brim. I watered it and covered it. Now it just needs a couple months to become great compost.

November was unusually cold. January feels like winter with lows around 5º C/41ºF highs around 16ºC/60ºF frequent mornings with sunny blue skies followed by mixed weather patterns: clouds, rain, wind. Not weather for sailing but ok for transplanting on the balcony.
