    Planting and Celebrating

Cabbage, Early Golden Acre , Broccoli, di Ciccio , Spinach, Giant Noble , and Wintersown 2013 garden
Trying to get more productive on the wintersowing and housework, but the young one still wants to do more birthday celebrating. So we are going out to the Showboat Restaurant in Chesaning for an awesome prime rib dinner (for him) and the best fried perch (for the husband and myself). Since I am s...

    Finally Starting My Garden!

Broccoli Raab, Spring , Broccoli Raab , Bok Choy, Pak Choy , Broccoli, Calabrese , and Wintersown 2013 garden
Now that all of my seeds have been ordered and trades sent out, I am ready to start planting! I am hoping to wintersow most of my seeds this year, other than warm weather veggies. That leaves me about two weeks to get moving and get everything sown and out on the porch. I do not even know how man...

Scattered thunderstorms and a high of 84. As soon as I get my allergies in check I will be able to enjoy what I consider to be an ideal gardening day. At the moment I am feeling like I will never be able to wear my contact lenses again. My eyes are just sooooooo red and swollen. Some of the tomat...

More crazy weather. It is around 10 degrees colder than what the forecast says. So mostly doing indoor work again. Actually ran out of pellets for seed starting, so the rest of that will have to wait until Friday. But there is still plenty of repotting to be done.

    Soaking Beans and Okra

Fennel Sprouting, Winter Squash, Sweet Potato Sprouting, and Cucumber, Long White Showing True Leaves
It is rainy and on the cool side today. Tomorrow is supposed to be warm and sunny, so I am working on indoor tasks today. Planting okra and beans in pellets to get them off to a good start. My daughter’s boyfriend is from a farming family and told me that our summer is supposed to be quite ...

    It's Almost May! Yay!

Zucchini, Dark Green Sprouting, Cucumber, Boston Pickling Sprouting, Cucumber, National Pickling Sprouting,...
What started out as a very warm spring sure has cooled down over the past couple of weeks. The upcoming forecast is nice and warm, though. I even got to dig in the dirt outside today! I have been repotting tomatoes and peppers into bigger containers all weekend and am starting to pitch seeds that...

Only on the records. I have enough plants to care for to keep me away from the computer. Which is a good thing on the one hand – lots of healthy starts make me think the season will be a success. A bad thing on the other – very unpredictable April weather this year, making putting any...

Repotted a couple dozen tomato plants into red cups yesterday. Potting up more today, including smaller ones. Also getting tags ready for cucurbits plantings and testing radishes and stubborn greens for germination. Maybe doing something outside, but the weather has been so unsteady I am afraid t...
