    Alive and quite well

    Viikuna and Utility garden
    These 3 are okay after -28C frosts. They were under 1m of snow all the winter.

    Dead

    Jättibambu and Utility garden
    New ones (3 germinated) died on our vacation. Those germinated 2010 haven’t appeared for this summer.

    Still waiting this southern to let leafs out. It’s not unusual southern cultivars to put out leafs late.

    Greenhouse has been filled

    Greenhouse 2010 garden
    I planted two different tomato cultivars, one sweet pepper cultivar and two watermelon plants to greenhouse. I’ve been keeping it above zero with 150W halogen light bec. night frosts.

    Going new Rubus X cultivars

    It was long waited time yesterday. My dream getting new brands to Finland is coming true. I paid order of about 320 Rubus plants to rw walpole ltd which are expected to arrive in weeks from UK. These plants will go further to 20 people. Also price was reasonable. I failed to have one brand, but p...

    Tasted some last summer

    Rubus hybr. 'Tayberry' and Utility garden
    I got few berries. They were quite big, but almost tasteless. That’s perhaps because its in shade of apple tree. Got to move this to more sunny location.

    Two were transplanted outdoors, bought new seeds

    Jättibambu Transplanted and Warm window garden
    Two bamboo were transplanted outdoors last summer. We shall shall see whether they are alive after winter -27C frosts. Luckily there were 2ft of snow.

    First flowers are open

    Punamarjakanukka and Utility garden
    Some small yellow flowers are opened, but we have had frosts at night time so most likely so perhaps I don’t need to worry about fruits.

    Some germinated in cold stratification

    Chaenomeles speciosa and Utility garden
    This species seedling were ordered not to go warm at all. So transferring outdoors even it could mean some freezing troubles germinated seedlings.

    My plum was tasted by rabbits

    Jaloluumu Reine claude d'Oulins and Utility garden
    My Reine claude d’Oulins plum was tasted by rabbits. So main spine was cut above 1m/3,5ft. I cut tops to make new plums. 4 left to garden company for reinstallation and one is still in freezer. Rabbit had change to climb high enoug because extremely high snow levels in this winter 45cm/1,5f...
