I have lived my entire life in the southwestern area of Missouri known as the Ozarks (zone 6). And while my husband and I own and still live on a 100-acre farm, I haven’t gardened in earnest in years. Oh, I would get caught up in spring-fever and buy a few flowers and a couple of cherry tomato plants, that were lucky if I remembered to water them often enough to survive through August. Between the dairy farm work, the 6 kids we raised and my full-time off-farm job, a garden just didn’t fit in. Ahhh, but the kids grew up, we sold the cows, and suddenly I’m able to rediscover what I want to do with some spare time. My daughter gave me the book “Lasagna Gardening” by Patricia Lanza, which inspired me to start gardening again after many, many years. And now I’m hooked! I doubled the size of my kitchen garden and flower beds from 2006 to 2007, and expect to add that much more again this year. How I’ll find enough time to take care of it all is another issue….
