I started with a garden in the city (Rotterdam). Quite large, for city-standards. But with a lot of shade because of the giant old trees. It was a lovely garden and I learned a lot then.
Seven years ago, I moved out of town, with my two girls and my man.
But, even though the standard of living is much better here, I got myself a rather small backyard garden. In the summer it is very hot, there is not much shade. So I can grow flowers that love the sun, which was new to me. Because we want to use the garden as an extra livingroom in the summer, it does not leave much place for plants, though. And I always wanted to grow fruits and vegetables and experiment more with colours and shapes.
So, even though I got a busy job and a lot of other hobbies, I finally hired an allotment. And I love it!
I try out many new things, so I keep myself being surprised all the time.
