I am a very enthusiastic novice gardener!
My grandfather used to grow vegies but I never really took much of an interest until I moved to a country town a couple of years ago. I am finding bits and pieces of memories of my childhood vsits to Nan & Pa’s place coming back to me :-D
Now i have a massive yard and the landlord said they are happy for us to do anything with it! HELLO VEGETABLES!!

At the moment I am mostly digging up bits of the massive lawn and making raised garden beds using potting mix. I’m hoping to get some compost going eventually but I am easing into the planting first. I am trying to add a little bit at a time until I get to the stage where I am growing most of my own veg. I would rather have too much than not enough but I am also trying not to do too much at once.

I live in south-west Queensland Australia. The weather here is very hot and dry (especially in summer) and we generally seem to get light frosts on some winter nights with warm days.
I started the garden in July/August 2010 beause I was unable to find fresh mint from any of the shops and I thought it would be easier to grow my own!
A kind friend made me up a big basket with mint, rosemary, marjoram and parsley after I asked her if she could spare me some mint! The mint now resides in 3 pots on the verandah,
The rosemary has grown very tall and is showing some beautiful blue flowers :-D I transplanted it into the ground just before winter and it has continued flowering!
1 of the parsleys died, 1 went to seed and the other almost died but I transplanted it into the ground where it is now coming along nicely.
The marjoram is slowly taking over the whole basket!

Next thing I did was dig up the grass and start on my first garden bed planting sugarloaf cabbage seeds, carrot tops and onion ends.
I have slowly added to my plantings and now have a very large variety of herbs, veg & fruit growing :-D
The lettuces from last spring have self seeded and are slowly taking over the whole yard!
Anyway I have collected some seeds and i have been scouring the internet and gardening magazines for advice since my gardening addiction started!

I am finally getting to the stage where i feel like I am getting somewhere! Once my current crops mature i will be eating vegies aplenty and loving it!
