After a lifetime of killing houseplants through benign neglect, I bought a home with a big yard in 2000; serendipitiously, my sister – a trained horticulturist – moved in with me for a couple of years and helped get me started gardening. Now I consider myself an avid novice with a taste for garden-fresh produce (and an aversion to weeding).
I practice no-till, no spray gardening, use soaker hoses to reduce water consumption and will grow and eat just about anything my garden can produce, including flowers. And I cheerfully murder slugs and snails on sight.
