05 Sep 2009Put away for now AeroGarden Classic tabletop gardenThe pump on the Aerogarden started to make a dreadful noise on a day when I needed to make many phone calls so I unplugged it. I had to leave that evening on a trip and couldn’t take care of it so I had my husband disassemble everything. I will try again some other time.Cloudy 16°C / 61°F

The basils, parsley and mint are definitely thriving. Since the basils were shading their neighbors, I trimmed the tops off as suggested in the growing manual. 28 Jul 2009Bees love bergamot Frontyard garden , Bee Balm 'Jacob Cline' Blooming, and Bee Balm 'Marshall's Delight'The first few days after planting the bee balm, we noticed a bumblebee on the flowers. Since then, we see as many as ten bees busily working. The plants do require quite a bit of water so far. Every day they seem to get droopy. My husband removed the two evergreen shrubs from the backyard making the space much more livable. I have a pretty clear idea of how I hope to landscape the backyard and it’s a relief to see it start to take shape.

I found some liquid hydroponic plant food and I’m going to try to use that instead of the tablets. So far the basils have pushed up and look green and strong. I forgot to seal the cards onto the top of the plugs as I’ve seen suggested somewhere on the web; I hope it won’t matter.
