have teeny tiny little yard which sat neglected for years — am 4yr into the resurrection process.
Have become somewhat obsessed with shade-thriving plants, pulling weeds and groundcover … I hate grass. Hate it.
Ideally would grow food to eat, fruit to preserve and plenty of beautiful flowery things. Realistically, though, most of the veggie garden fails, the most expensive / exotic things die, and I find myself increasingly focused on covering up bald spots in the yard with stuff which will actually grow – e.g. heuchera, hosta, columbines.
I’m blessed with a husband who has taken to composting in the same way I’ve taken to planting crap. At least we never need for good soil….
